Crime Surge Sparks Massive Police Crackdown as 255 Suspects Arrested

The Uganda Police Force, working under a Joint Task Force, has carried out a large-scale coordinated security operation across parts of Wakiso District and Kampala, resulting in the arrest of 255 suspects in a sweeping crackdown aimed at combating crime and strengthening public safety.

The operations, conducted on 16th February 2026, were confirmed by police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, who stated that the targeted areas had been identified as hotspots and gathering points for individuals suspected of engaging in criminal activities that have been affecting residents and businesses.

πŸ”Ž Targeted Areas in Wakiso and Kampala

The coordinated raids covered multiple locations across Wakiso District and the Kampala Metropolitan area.

In Nansana and Wakiso Sub-county:

Nansana West Ward

Kyebando

Gganda

In Kira Municipality:

Kitukutwe Zone

Kiwologoma

Namugongo Nsawo Zone

In Kyanja (under Kira Road Policing Area)

In Kampala:

Selected black spots within the Central Business District (CBD)

According to police, these locations had been under surveillance following reports linking them to narcotics distribution, street crime, and organized criminal gatherings.

πŸ“Š Breakdown of Arrests

The security agencies reported the following arrests:

65 suspects arrested in Nansana and surrounding areas

38 suspects arrested in Kira Municipality

16 suspects arrested in Kyanja

136 suspects (134 males and 2 females) arrested within Kampala’s Central Business District

This brings the total number of suspects apprehended during the operations to 255 individuals.

πŸ’Š Narcotics Recovered

Police confirmed that exhibits of suspected narcotic substances were recovered during the operations. All suspects were screened and charged with offenses related to possession of suspected narcotics and other associated crimes.

The suspects are currently detained at respective police stations where they are undergoing processing ahead of court appearances.

Authorities described the operation as successful and emphasized that it forms part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks, eliminate crime hotspots, and restore public confidence in security.

The Joint Task Force has assured residents of Wakiso and Kampala that similar intelligence-led operations will continue in order to maintain law and order and ensure a peaceful and secure environment for all citizens.

Police have also urged members of the public to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information that can help prevent crime and protect communities.
