A Ugandan domestic worker, Vicky Ajok, is reportedly facing execution in Syria following the death of her employer, 87-year-old actress Huda Shaarawi.
According to reports, the incident occurred on January 29, 2026. Ajok is alleged to have attacked her employer during a confrontation at the residence, leading to the elderly woman’s death. Authorities later apprehended her after she reportedly fled the scene.
In a reported confession, Ajok is said to have cited prolonged mistreatment and unpaid wages as factors that contributed to the fatal altercation. The case has since drawn attention both locally and internationally, particularly among migrant worker advocacy groups concerned about the welfare and legal protection of domestic workers abroad.
Officials have indicated that Ajok is scheduled to face capital punishment on February 28. However, details surrounding the legal proceedings, including access to legal representation and diplomatic intervention efforts, remain limited.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about the working conditions of migrant domestic workers in parts of the Middle East and beyond. Ugandan authorities have previously urged citizens seeking employment overseas to use licensed recruitment agencies and to verify contracts to ensure legal protections are in place.
Further updates are expected as diplomatic efforts and human rights organizations continue to monitor the situation.
